Sometimes
when one is doing business it is difficult to keep track of all the things
going on. If one has to concentrate only on the business there has to someone
to make sure that business practices are update to keep competitors at bay.
There has been an emergence of a breed of new men who have made inroads with
competitive intelligent careers. They have taken on the mantle to help business
houses as consultants. There is a society of competitive intelligence
professionals that are already working albeit on a low profile. One needs to be
thoroughly trained for the job before embarking on any plan. Earlier
competitive intelligent careers were mainly for people with detective
background or defense milieu. Today there is exclusive training for specific
lines of business. A person who has the aptitude for it and wishes to make a
career in it needs a through knowledge of the company he is dealing with. The
job may come as a project-to-project basis or one company may hire him
permanently.
As the person has to get to know the process and the product, he should be able
to deal with it ethically. There is a different between a career in competitive
intelligence and espionage (which apparently is illegal). The law does not look
down upon competitive intelligent careers. There is a certain discipline
involved and a way to evaluate the rivals and examine their business plans.
Competitive intelligence helps in keeping business on track for most people. Most
companies try to have internal practice to keep workers from spilling any
information. Training people is necessary, as it will help them to do their
best. After all, for anyone to have a successful career in competitive
intelligence, it will be a sign of professionalism.
